far away from iconic symbols of popular culture, world-class institutions, creative, locally inspired food and drink, and little neighborhood hamlets overflowing on personality and US. Midwest hospitality. Music and dining

Most visitors consider a stop at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum a requisite part of their Cleveland itinerary, and rightly so, since Cleveland's own DJ Alan Freed coined the phrase "rock and roll" in the 1950s. Just next door with breathtaking lake views along the connecting waterfront walkway is the Great Lakes Science Center.

East Fourth Street is a cobblestone ave-

nue that is both downtown neighborhood and nightspot home to eateries from Cleveland's titans of cuisine, Iron Chef Michael Symon, Jonathan Sawyer, and Zack Bruell, a bowling alley, a local coffee roaster, as well as the House of Blues Cleveland and the Cleveland Visitors Center operated by Positively Cleveland. Movies, market and more

Capture Cleveland's quirky side with a stop at the Christmas Story House and a host of galleries, boutiques, and restaurants in Tremont, and then take an easy walk back to the 100-year-old West Side Market for crepes, sandwiches, Mediterranean fare, or baked goods. Consider

a stop at Sokolowski's University Inn, the city's oldest family-owned restaurant for traditional foods like pierogi, bratwurst, pork chops, and homemade sides before walking back over the Carnegie Bridge for some of the camera-worthy city views. Water and culture

Speaking of views, Cleveland's north coast lakefront offers several miles of enjoyable scenery easily accessible at Edgewater Park, Whiskey Island, and Wendy Park to catch some rays or a

To the east, University Circle is Cleveland's cultural center; home to numerous treasures including The Cleveland Museum of Art, which offers free admission (special exhibitions exempted), The Cleveland Botanical Garden, Crawford Auto Museum, Cleveland Museum of Natural History Museum, and Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra. The Uptown District and Case Western Reserve University campus are also the gateway to Little Italy, a charming neighborhood boasting generations of family restaurants and bakeries.

Neighborhoods

We haven't even scratched the surface of all the great neighborhoods and destinations to check during your visit now-so many that you'll already be making plans to return. Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, a community partner of the Gay Games, has included a neighborhood guide in the participant bags available at the Games Info Centers to help you explore further.
